Make a Hygrometer

Making your own weather hygrometer is actually quite easy. It is certainly much easier than trying to make NOAA weather radios and you will have a whole lot of fun while you are at it. There are several things you will need before you get started. These include a thin, flat piece of plastic you can cut and a flat piece of styrofoam or word that is about 9 inches by 4 inches. You will also need two nails, three eight-inch long strands of human hair, a dime, tape, glue, hammer, scissors, and a pattern. All you need to do is cut the plastic into a triangle and then tape the dime onto the point of the plastic. You will need to poke a hole in the base of the triangle with one of the nails in between the nail and the dime you need to glue the hair strands. Then you need to take the pointer and position it on the base only a quarter of the way up the side. Then, attach the nail to the base. The pointer should be able to turn easily. You will know you have it right when the hair hangs vertical and the pointer is horizontal. Then, glue the hair to the nail. The hair will show you how much moisture is in the air by expanding or contracting due to the humidity.
